Points / frequency: Each inmate gets 7 visiting points per month. Weekend/holiday visits cost 2 points; weekday visits cost 1 point. There is no time minimum — entering the visiting room deducts points regardless of visit length, and separate arrivals on the same day count as separate visits.

Visiting can be cancelled for lockdowns, weather or count problems. Call the facility the day before you travel.

Dress code

  • No hats, watches, transparent/sheer clothing, bib overalls, open-toe shoes/sandals, or spiked heels
  • No halter tops, sleeveless tops/dresses, shorts, miniskirts, culottes, capri pants, or spandex
  • No skin-tight or sexually suggestive clothing; dresses/skirts must reach the top of the knee (no slits above it)
  • No low-cut, V-neck, tank tops, midriff-baring tops, or gang-related/derogatory logos
  • No khaki-colored clothing or camouflage; sweatsuits/jogging outfits not allowed with civilian clothing if they resemble inmate wear
  • Female visitors must wear a bra and all visitors must wear underclothing; no bare feet (except babies); no chewing gum

You may bring

  • Valid driver's license or government-issued photo ID
  • One wallet or transparent change purse, no larger than 5x8x4 inches
  • $20.00 in quarters for vending machines
  • For infants: 4 diapers, 1 inch of wipes in a clear bag, 2 unopened baby food jars/packs, 3 clear half-full baby bottles, 1 baby blanket
  • Feminine sanitary napkins or tampons; heart or epilepsy medication only

Not allowed

  • Personal keys or electronic devices (beepers, cell phones, car alarm remotes)
  • Handbags, packages, photos, gifts, documents, or papers
  • Car seats or strollers; no written messages may be exchanged during a visit
  • Cameras or recording equipment without the Warden's written consent
  • Tobacco products of any kind (all visiting areas are no-smoking)

Good to know

ID requirements
Positive picture ID is required for all visitors — a valid driver's license or other government-issued photo ID. Without it, the visit is denied and the visitor must leave the grounds immediately.
Children
Only people on the inmate's approved visiting list may visit. Children under 16 must be accompanied by their approved parent or legal guardian; children 16 and older count as an adult visitor and must be on the approved list themselves. Inmates and visitors are both responsible for children's behavior; at the USP and FCI, inmates are not permitted in the children's area.
Vending machines
Visitors may bring $20.00 in quarters (change only, no bills) to buy food from the vending machines. Inmates cannot accompany visitors to the machines or remove any vending items from the Visiting Room.
Money you may bring
$20.00 in quarters only, for vending machines (no other cash allowed; money for an inmate's account must go by mail, not through the visiting room)
  • Do not arrive before visiting hours start — processing normally begins no earlier than the posted time, and visitors cannot wait in the parking lot or front lobby
  • Check bop.gov for any last-minute changes or cancellations to visiting before traveling
  • Lockers are available for visitors to store personal items not allowed inside
  • All visitors are drug-screened (ION scan) and may be denied entry for a positive test; repeat positives lead to longer suspensions (30/90/180 days)
