Rotation: FCI inmates are allotted 7 visiting points per month (points do not carry over): Saturday or Sunday visits cost 3 points each; federal holiday, attorney, professional, legal, and PVS visits cost 0 points. The third Monday of each month is reserved for SHU visits, not general population.

Special Housing Unit (SHU)

Rotation: Only on the third Monday of each month, for inmates in Administrative Detention/Disciplinary Segregation (SHU); visits limited to 2 hours per inmate unless prior approval is obtained. There is no non-contact video visiting area at FCI Memphis.

Visiting can be cancelled for lockdowns, weather or count problems. Call the facility the day before you travel.

Dress code

  • No sleeveless, see-through, or skin-tight clothing (including spandex, leggings, or tight jeans)
  • No shorts (except for children), capri pants, or wraparound skirts
  • No jogging/sweat suits, camouflage, or khaki/orange/brown/grey clothing (resembles inmate uniforms)
  • Skirts and dresses must be no more than 2 inches above the knee; slits follow the same limit
  • No hats or caps, except for infants
  • No plain white T-shirts, or shirts with vulgar or offensive wording/pictures
  • No open-toed shoes, thongs, or sandals

You may bring

  • Valid, non-expired state or government-issued photo ID for visitors 16+
  • Small see-through coin purse with up to $20 in coins
  • Car and/or house keys
  • Life-maintaining medication, allowed at the Operations Lieutenant's discretion (e.g., heart or epilepsy medication; syringes are not permitted)
  • Limited infant items: up to 2 empty bottles, 3 diapers, wipes in a clear container, 2 sealed baby food/formula containers, 1 outfit, 1 receiving blanket

Not allowed

  • Cell phones, cameras, video cameras, smart watches, and pagers
  • Handbags, diaper bags, strollers/carriages, and sunglasses
  • Solid bills — only coins are accepted, up to $20
  • Food, gum, or candy of any kind, except items for infants
  • Reading material, photos, lighters, matches, tobacco, pocketknives, or nail clippers

Good to know

ID requirements
All visitors must present a valid, non-expired state or government-issued photo ID before being admitted. Visitors under 16 do not need to present ID.
Children
Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is on the inmate's approved visiting list and must stay with the visitor at all times. There is no general children's play area at FCI Memphis; a reservable Parenting Room is available only to inmates enrolled in (or who completed) the parenting program.
Vending machines
Vending machines are available for visitors; food must be removed from its original wrapping and placed on a paper plate, with the wrapper thrown away before visitors are seated. No outside food or beverages allowed.

  • Do not arrive more than 15 minutes before scheduled visiting hours
  • Visitor processing pauses during institutional counts (around the 10:00 a.m. count); wait until the count clears
  • SPC Millington camp is at a different address (6696 Navy Road, Millington) than the FCI (1101 John A. Denie Drive, Memphis) — confirm which facility you're visiting
  • Only coins work in the vending machines, up to $20; bring exact change
