Visiting can be cancelled for lockdowns, weather or count problems. Call the facility the day before you travel.

Dress code

  • No tank tops, see-through clothing, or anything showing cleavage (even if not technically low-cut)
  • No shorts, skirts, or dresses shorter than 2 inches above the mid-knee; no slits above the top of the knee
  • No skin-tight clothing (spandex, leggings/jeggings, leotards) unless the lower body is fully covered
  • No sweatpants, sweat shorts, plain white T-shirts, or forest/dark-green clothing (resembles inmate uniform)
  • No hats, visors, head wraps, headbands, hooded clothing, or sunglasses (except religious headwear)
  • Closed-toe shoes required — no flip-flops, slippers, or shoes with rolling wheels

You may bring

  • Valid photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport) for visitors 16 and older
  • Up to $20 in coins for the vending machines, in a small clear bag (max 8"x12")
  • Essential medication (asthma inhaler, nitroglycerin) in the amount needed for the visit — held by the Visiting Room Officer
  • Baby items per infant: 2 diapers, 1 unopened wipes pack, 1 change of clothes, 2 clear bottles with contents, 2 unopened small baby-food jars, 1 receiving blanket, 1 clear cup, all in a clear bag (max 12"x16")

Not allowed

  • Cell phones, pagers, cameras, or recording equipment (must stay locked in your vehicle)
  • Food or beverages of any kind
  • Purses, coats, or jackets not being worn (must be secured in your vehicle)
  • Any item to give to or receive from an inmate
  • Car keys and vehicle remotes (must be stored with the Lobby Officer)

ID requirements
Visitors 16 and older must show a valid photo ID (driver's license, state ID card, or current passport). Non-government IDs and foreign consulate cards (other than a passport) are not accepted.
Children
Children under 16 may not visit unless accompanied by a responsible adult who is an approved visitor. Up to 3 children under 10 who don't occupy a seat may visit beyond the 4-visitor limit; a child who sits in a seat counts as one of the 4. Children under 16 accompanied by a parent/guardian are exempt from the photo-ID requirement.
Vending machines
Vending machines are available in the visiting room; visitors may bring up to $20 in coins for them. Inmates are not permitted near the vending machine area or allowed to handle a visitor's change purse or cash.
Money you may bring
Up to $20 in coins only, for the vending machines, carried in a small clear plastic bag/container no larger than 8"x12"
  • FCI I (VIM), FCI II (VVM), and USP (VIP) all share the same visiting days/hours: Sat, Sun, Mon, and federal holidays, 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
  • Visitors are not processed before 8:30 a.m. or after 2:00 p.m.
  • Maximum of 4 approved visitors at a time (plus up to 3 non-seated children under 10)
  • USP holdover inmates also get a visiting day on Fridays, 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. (in addition to weekends)
  • SHU visitors are never processed after 1:00 p.m., and appointments Tuesday-Friday are preferred for SHU visits
  • Call ahead — a same-day check with the specific facility helps confirm there's no schedule deviation
