Visiting days depend on their housing unit

Most ADX inmates may visit on any regular visiting day. Inmates housed in H-Unit may only visit Monday through Wednesday.

Points / frequency: No formal points system for the ADX. Each inmate is capped at 5 visits per month and 7 hours maximum per visit; unused visits do not carry over.

Visiting can be cancelled for lockdowns, weather or count problems. Call the facility the day before you travel.

Dress code

  • No shorts shorter than mid-thigh length
  • No low-cut or see-through clothing, tube tops, or tank tops
  • No backless clothing, swimsuits, or sweat suits
  • No skin-tight or otherwise suggestive/revealing clothing
  • Dresses (including any slit) must reach the back of the knee
  • No hats or head coverings except approved religious headgear
  • Avoid khaki-colored clothing (resembles the inmate uniform)

You may bring

  • Clear change purse, 8 inches by 8 inches or smaller
  • Up to $25 in bills no larger than $5, per inmate per day
  • A comb, and prescription medication for one day's visit
  • Jewelry (must be worn, not carried loose)
  • For infants: a clear diaper bag with up to 6 each of sealed baby food/formula, empty bottles, and diapers

Not allowed

  • Cameras, tape recorders, or any photographs
  • Purses, coats, jackets, and headgear (must stay locked in a vehicle or provided locker, with limited cold-weather exceptions)
  • Gifts, packages, or written notes exchanged with the inmate
  • Food or beverages, except sealed infant food/formula
  • Pets, except a certified service dog for a disabled visitor

ID requirements
Visitors 16 and older need current picture identification such as a driver's license, passport, or state ID card; expired IDs are not accepted.
Children
Children age 15 and under do not count toward the visitor limit. Visitors under 16 not accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or immediate family member 18+ need that person's written approval before the visit, and approval by the Associate Warden/Duty Officer if the sponsoring adult is not the parent or legal guardian.
Vending machines
The institution does not provide meals for visitors, but vending machines are available. Inmates may never use the vending machines or handle currency.
Money you may bring
Up to $25 per visit per inmate, in bills no larger than $5, carried in a clear change purse no bigger than 8 inches by 8 inches.
  • This is ADX 'Supermax' Florence — all regular visits are strictly non-contact, conducted through security glass or partitioned booths, never in an open room
  • Arrive early: visitors cannot enter the lobby more than 15 minutes before visiting starts and are not processed in after 2:00 p.m.
  • Visitors are hand-stamped on entry and checked with a black light on exit — do not leave the visiting area early or you cannot re-enter that day
