Rotation: Non-general-population inmates (Special Management Unit/SMU, Special Housing Unit/SHU, or those pending ADX-Florence placement) visit only by video conference from a station in their housing unit. SMU inmates get up to 5 video visits per month, 2 hours each, on weekends only, requested in writing at least a week ahead. SHU inmates get one 2-hour video visit per visiting day, filled first-come first-served. All video-conference visits end 30 minutes before the regular 3:00 p.m. closing time.

Visiting can be cancelled for lockdowns, weather or count problems. Call the facility the day before you travel.

Dress code

  • Attire must be conservative and professional, like a courtroom — not casual
  • No camouflage, khaki-colored clothing, hospital scrubs, or gang-related attire (including sagging pants)
  • No shorts or Capri pants more than 2 in. above the knee; dresses no shorter than the back of the knee
  • No low-cut/V-neck, sleeveless, see-through, tube, tank, halter, or crop tops; no swimsuits or sweat suits
  • No hats, bandanas, or scarves (religious headgear is the exception)
  • No open-toe shoes or excessive jewelry

You may bring

  • One wallet, clear change purse, or small zip-lock bag (max 8"x6")
  • Up to $20 cash per visitor
  • A comb, prescribed/heart medication, and jewelry normally worn
  • For infants: sealed baby food, baby clothes, bottles, and powder/lotion, only in the quantity needed for the visit

  • Chewing gum or breath mints
  • Photos or other personal items
  • Any gift, package, or item to give to or receive from the inmate
  • Cameras, recording devices, or cell phones

ID requirements
Visitors 16 and older must show official Federal or State photo identification (driver's license, federal ID, welfare card, passport, or state ID); signature ID alone is not accepted.
Children
Up to 6 children may visit along with up to 4 adults. Only children age 5 or younger may be held or sit on the inmate's lap. Parents/guardians must supervise children at all times; inmates are never allowed in the children's play area, and breastfeeding is permitted only in a designated area.
